Fair Trade
Aldea supports fair trade artisans
Fair trade is a social movement focused on enabling marginalized producers to receive fair wages and to work in clean, safe environments. The label of fair trade is assigned to an ever-growing list of consumable and artisan goods that meet the requirements put forth by several international certifying bodies.

Aldea ensures that each product we sell meets and often exceeds fair trade requirements. Our Guatemalan producers are paid a premium which can equal double the price they earn selling similar artisan goods in local tourist markets. Aldea artisans work from their homes or from the homes of other members of their group, in between caring for their children and managing the household. Their productivity is contingent on the alignment of the right incentives, and fair trade creates the incentive for Aldea artisans to consistently maintain high levels of quality.
