Aldea artisans weave scarves and other fair trade clothing on backstrap looms
Aldea artisans work primarily on the backstrap loom, a traditional weaving instrument in which the artisan uses her body to create leverage for the loom and to keep her fabric taut. View more information on backstrap weaving.

Weaving on the backstrap loom allows the artisan to craft her handmade goods anywhere with a solid post to tie her loom. As a result, she can generate finished goods to sell from just about anywhere.
Traditionally, backstrap weavers set up their looms in the center of their homes, managing the household while participating in income generating activities.
